Information about the faculty

The Faculty of International Relations was created in 2011 on the basis of the specialties “international relations” and “regional studies” of the Faculty of History. The dean of the faculty is Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Jafarov Sayhomid Khayriddinovich.

Currently, the number of students studying at the faculty reaches 700 people. The faculty trains highly qualified specialists in four areas – international relations, foreign policy and diplomacy, foreign regional studies and analytical information activities in international relations. Training in the specialty of international relations, diplomacy and foreign policy and information and analytical activities in the field of international relations is carried out on a contractual basis, and in the specialty of foreign regional studies – on a budget-contractual basis. Along with specialized subjects, our students study foreign languages: English (basic), Arabic, French, German and Chinese. At the same time, students are enrolled in the military department.

The faculty has five departments: the Department of International Relations (headed by Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor A.N. Sharipov), Department of Diplomacy and Foreign Policy of the Republic of Tajikistan (Headed by Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor F.N. Salimov), Department of Foreign Regional Studies (headed by – Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Kh.D. Samiev), the Department of Oriental Studies (headed by – Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor M.A. Rahmonov) and the Department of European Studies (headed by – Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor A.F. Najmiddinov).

In 2023, the total number of teachers and staff in the five departments of the faculty are 60 people, of which 42 are full-time employees, 9 junior employees and 9 technical employees. Of the 42 full-time employees, 35 people are engaged in research activities. In particular, among the total number of teachers and staff of the faculty, 42 are men and 18 are women.

Of the 42 full-time employees, 32 (73%) are teachers with scientific titles and 10 are teachers without scientific titles. Of the total number of teachers with titles, 7 are doctors of science. Another 25 people are candidates of science. The faculty has created all the conditions for training highly qualified specialists. In particular, in order to improve the theoretical knowledge of students, there are 1 computer class, 1 Internet class, a master class (for conducting round tables and seminars), 8 classrooms equipped with electronic boards.

The faculty also has 4 scientific centers: Analytical and Expert Center (head, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor F.N. Salimov), Center for Regional and Comparative Studies (head, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Olimov M), Center for the Heritage of Manuscripts of Foreign Ancestors (head, Candidate Of Political Sciences, Associate Professor Mamadazimov A.A.) and the Center for the Study of the Peaceful Experience of Tajiks (head, Candidate Of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Samiev Kh.D.).

Within their framework, students discuss, research and analyze current, contemporary and problematic issues of the region and the world according to the club’s plan.

The Faculty, in partnership with the Universities of Kent and Cambridge (UK), Belarusian State University (Minsk), Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (Baku), University of World Economy and Diplomacy (Tashkent), carries out research and educational cooperation within the framework of GCRF COMPASS – (Comprehensive Capacity Building in the Eastern Neighborhood and Central Asia: research integration, impact management and sustainable communities).

It should be noted that under the leadership of the university, Councils for the defense of candidate and doctoral dissertations in the specialty 07.00.15 – History of International Relations and Foreign Policy and 07.00.03 – General History were created under the supervision of Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor N.M. Department of International Relations

The Department of International Relations was created in 2002 as part of the Faculty of History, taking into account the emerging demand for training specialists in the field of international relations. The department currently has 13 full-time employees, 1 external employee, 1 internal employee and 3 part-time employees. Of the total number of employees, three are doctors of science, professor (S.S. Fattohzoda, M.Kh. Malikov, S.S. Abdulkodirzoda), seven are candidates of science (candidate of historical sciences, associate professor, Samiev Kh.D., candidate of political sciences associate professor Nuriddin P.R., candidate of historical sciences, associate professor Malikov K.K., candidate of historical sciences, Ghayratova F.A., candidate of historical sciences, Payvandov K.T., candidate of historical sciences, Mirzoev H.T.) 1 senior teacher (Basirov B.S.) and three assistants (Ismatova N.Sh., Ismatulloi S., Fayzulloev K.S.).

In order to improve the level of education, the Department of International Relations has established mutually beneficial cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Executive office of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan and invites employees of these institutions for training at special courses.

The department also has a “Young Analysts” club, headed by Kh.B. Payvandov. 28 club members take an active part in the scientific life of the faculty and university.

Department of Diplomacy and Foreign Policy of the Republic of Tajikistan

The Department of Diplomacy and Foreign Policy of the Republic of Tajikistan has been functioning since 06/02/2017 on the basis of the order of the Rector of the University. The head of the department is Candidate Of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Salimov Farrukh Nasimovich. The department employs 10 full-time employees, 2 external employees and 2 internal employees. Of the total number of staff members, 4 doctors of sciences, professors (Latifov J.L., Sattorzoda A., Rakhmatullozoda E., Muhammadzoda P.A.), 6 candidates of sciences (Candidate Of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Salimov F.N., Candidate Of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Jafarov S.Kh., Candidate of Political Sciences, Senior Lecturer, Rizoyon Sh.Sh., Candidate of Historical Sciences, Senior Lecturer Anvari S) and 2 assistants (Gaforzoda F, Farzonay Sh.).

The activities of the department, with the goal of its worthy representation on the world stage, are aimed at training competitive specialists in the field of diplomacy and foreign policy in the domestic labor market, educating students in the spirit of understanding and ensuring national interests, protecting the identity and national cultural values of Tajiks and Tajikistanis.

At the department, with the aim of studying and analyzing modern political, security, socio-economic, religious, cultural, ethnic processes in Tajikistan and the countries of the region, providing information-analytical and expert-analytical priority areas of domestic and foreign policy of the Republic of Tajikistan, conducting expert analysis of political, diplomatic, military, economic, humanitarian, educational cooperation and, of course, presentation of the university’s scientific achievements in the field of foreign policy in the country and abroad, the “Expert Analytical Center of TNU” was created. Based on the attraction of projects, the Center’s specialists conduct research in the field of countering extremism and terrorism, Central Asian studies and the peaceful experience of Tajiks, and also work in the field of preparing monographs, textbooks and teaching aids.

Under the leadership of Anvari Safari, a scientific club of students called the “Club of Young Diplomats” operates. Club members actively participate in all scientific, educational and social events of the department, faculty and university.

Department of Foreign Regional Studies

Due to the need to research and study processes, trends and regional aspects of international relations, in particular, the process of regionalization as a sub-process of globalization, the Department of Foreign Regional Studies was created at the Faculty of International Relations, based on the order of the Rector of the University dated May 31, 2013 No. 154-09. From 2017 to 2023, the head of the department was Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Rozikov F.M. Currently, the head of the department is Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Kh.D. Samiev. The department has 9 full-time employees and 1 external employee, who work and act depending on the direction of their scientific activity. At the department 1 professor – Olimov M., 4 associate professors: Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, Rozikov F., Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, Mamadazimov A., Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, Yorov A.Sh. Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, Barotzoda F., Candidate of Political Sciences, Associate Professor Zardi Shamsiddin, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Abdulloev J.T., and 2 assistants: Karimova Z., Nazarov B.B., are engaged in educational and scientific activities. At the Department of Foreign Regional Studies there is a scientific club “Regional Scientist”, which is headed by assistant Karimova Z. Currently, this club has 30 permanent members and is held once a month on Saturdays.

Department of European Studies

The Department of European Studies was created on the basis of the Department of Foreign Languages of the Faculty of International Relations on May 6, 2014. No. 12. At the Department of European Studies, experienced teachers teach the subjects of English, French, German, history and culture of the European region, diplomatic correspondence in English, the theory and practice of diplomatic translation, as well as EU public policy. The Department of European Studies employs such teachers as – Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Nadzhmiddinov A.F. (head of the department), senior teachers Abdulkhaeva M.Kh., Muradov F.M., Ashurmamedova U., Nazarova M., Nurzoda M., assistant Giyoev F. as well as laboratory assistant of the department Nurova L. Also, the department organized the activities of the “Friendship” club, which takes place twice a month according to the plan. This club discusses various topics, which helps develop and improve students’ language practice. The head of the club is senior teacher Nurzoda M.

Department of Oriental Studies

The Department of Oriental Studies was established on the basis of the Department of Foreign Languages of the Faculty of International Relations on May 6, 2014. No. 162-09. The head of the department is Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Rakhmonov M.A. The Department of Oriental Studies is taught by experienced teachers, including Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Tupalov G.Sh., Candidate of Philological Sciences, senior teacher Saidova F.Kh., Candidate of Historical Sciences, senior teacher Kamarov A.Z and senior teacher Mahmudzoda M.K, from the subjects of Arabic, Chinese, history and culture of the East region, as well as the theory and practice of diplomatic translation. At the same time, the department organized the activities of the “Message of the East” club, which takes place twice a month according to the clubs’ plan. This club discusses various topics, which helps develop and improve students’ language practice. The head of the club is Associate Professor G.Sh. Tupalov.

For a master’s degree, the faculty trains specialists in three areas:

a) Specialization: 23010100- International relations.

b) Specialization: 23010101 – Diplomatic foreign policy.

c) Specialization: 23010106- Foreign regional studies.

The degree of education at the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) level is carried out in a specialty, with a duration of study of 3 years:

Specialization: 6D 020200 – international relations, form of study: full-time. Specialization: 6D 050500 – regional studies, form of study: full-time.
